Neighborhood message board for McGeorge Park approved for CDBG funding

The Norman Board of Park Commissioners on Dec. 4 recommended approval of a Community Development Block Grant-funded message board for McGeorge Park and approved forwarding the recommendation to the director of parks and recreation.
Tara Reynolds of the CDBG program told the board the neighborhood association requested a 48-by-48-inch message board to increase park use; the hardware will be cemented into the ground, use a recycled-plastic frame with a cedar finish and include two locking doors. "The CDBG program will pay for the message board and for the installation of it, and it is up to the association to maintain it," Reynolds said. Parks department staff told the board the parks department will also hold a key.
Commissioners asked about vandalism history at McGeorge; staff said the neighborhood has grown more invested in the park and will participate in maintenance. The board approved the recommendation by voice vote.
The approved recommendation will be forwarded to the parks director for final administrative approval and installation scheduling.
