Norman park board reappoints members, confirms subcommittee slate and 2026 meeting dates

The Norman Board of Park Commissioners on Dec. 4 reappointed and confirmed leadership and subcommittee assignments for 2026 and approved the board’s meeting calendar for next year.
Cheryl Sheriff was nominated and agreed to continue as chair and Ellen Ussery will remain vice chair after voice votes to approve both positions. Commissioners removed an inactive “movie in the park” committee and approved a slate of assignments for standing and ad hoc committees, including Naming & Recognition, the Urban Wilderness advisory committee (Sutton Wilderness), the Parks and Recreation Policy & Procedures committee and the Norman Ford Saxon Park ad hoc. Staff said committee membership was being balanced to avoid quorum issues for committee meetings.
The board also approved the proposed 2026 schedule of meetings. Staff noted the Jan. 1 meeting was canceled because it falls on New Year’s Day and said a special meeting will be scheduled in early January to consider a development item that needs to reach the planning commission by February. The board voted to accept the calendar.
The actions clear the way for subcommittee work next year and give staff direction to issue meeting notices and agendas to committee members. The board’s procedural votes were by voice and there were no roll-call tallies included in the meeting record. The board adjourned after a full agenda of staff reports and project updates.
