Police Chief Jerry Hayhoe used his report on June 10 to warn residents about an ongoing impersonation scam and to update the council on a recent street repair.
Hayhoe said residents have received text messages purporting to be from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles that instruct recipients to pay to avoid license suspension. "By no means click on anything. Delete it," Hayhoe said, adding that Ohio BMV will not communicate in that manner and inviting residents to contact the police department for verification.
Hayhoe also reported a sinkhole on Robinwood Drive caused by a separated and obstructed stormwater pipe beneath the street. A contractor completed replacement of the catch basin and damaged pipe last week; Hayhoe said the repair should prevent the sinkhole from expanding further and that the department will monitor the location and arrange repaving when a more solid base is placed under the repaired area.
No further enforcement or funding details were discussed at the meeting. A council member noted having received a similar text message and said residents should delete and block the sender.
