Mayor: NJDOT, Amtrak working on Bridal Bridge; council gets local infrastructure updates

Mayor Marlena updated the council on the status of the Bridal Bridge and other local infrastructure matters during the Nov. 24 meeting.
On the bridge, the mayor said NJDOT has engaged Amtrak and engineers and that officials hope to meet in December. He told the council that DOT engineers are not comfortable opening even one lane of the bridge without Amtrak’s concurrence because structural elements under the deck (described as corroded coils) lack sufficient support. "They don't feel comfortable opening the bridge even one direction unless they have understanding from Amtrak as to what's involved," the mayor said, adding that Amtrak’s timetable for repairs will be a critical factor.
The mayor also addressed neighborhood requests about traffic and pedestrian safety: speed-limit signage ordered after an ordinance reducing a portion of Alexander Road to 25 mph should be up within days if a sign is in stock; repaving of Harris Road is being evaluated and may require property acquisitions for sidewalks; the administration is following up on sidewalk repairs tied to insurance claims and said it does not want to use taxpayer money if insurance will pay; and the mayor said the township corrected an online post about the Harris/Clarksville pedestrian signal and will provide a corrected image or email as needed.
Administration announcements included DPW leaf-collection schedules for Zone 4, municipal office closures for Thanksgiving, a rabies-vaccination clinic on Dec. 4 and the Watershed Rehabilitation Program public hearing for Assunpink Creek on Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. The council also promoted holiday events including the West Windsor History Museum open house (Dec. 6–7), the annual breakfast with Santa and a drone show planned for Dec. 7.
Mayor Marlena encouraged residents to support local businesses affected by the bridge closure and said the township is coordinating signage changes with NJDOT based on business feedback. No timetable for full bridge reopening was announced; the mayor said further updates hinge on meetings with Amtrak and NJDOT.
