Kern River Valley residents press county for window repairs, daytime staffing at senior center

At the Dec. 16 meeting of the Kern County Board of Supervisors, Judy Hyatt, president (outgoing) of Kern River Valley Senior Citizen Inc., urged the board to place several modest senior-center repairs and a staffing plan on the county's radar for 2026.
Hyatt said the senior center's dining room still has single-pane windows that make the room cold in winter and hot in summer and suggested exploring grant funding to replace windows. She also asked the county to consider part-time daytime help to address behavioral and safety issues tied to homeless persons using the facility; Hyatt said building-service workers and volunteers are currently handling those challenges.
"I have a wish list," Hyatt said, noting she is finishing her term as president and that Diane Holcomb will take over. Supervisor Peters asked staff to connect with Hyatt and explore possible actions, and staff agreed to follow up.
The board did not take formal action on the requests at the meeting; Hyatt's remarks were recorded during the public presentations portion and will inform staff follow-up and potential budget planning for 2026.
