Lake Clarke Shores — Council members voted to adopt changes to the town's vacation accrual policy after staff reported the town had not been consistently enforcing a 2008 personnel rule that capped vacation at 240 hours.
Staff briefed the council that a public-records request revealed several long-term employees had balances above the 240-hour cap; staff presented three options: raise the cap (option A) and give impacted employees a 24-month grace period to come into compliance; keep the 240-hour cap and provide a 24-month grace period; or grandfather pre-2008 employees at a higher balance. Staff said the town's payout-on-separation maximum would not change.
A council member moved to adopt option A and directed staff to amend the personnel manual; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Council members emphasized they did not intend to reduce benefits earned by long-term employees and that staff would return with implementing language. The council's vote included directing staff to draft the personnel-manual changes.
