The Lake Clarke Shores Town Council voted Nov. 11 to approve a five-year solid waste, recycling and collection services agreement with Waste Management after roughly eight months of negotiations.
Town Manager Joe summarized the contract terms, saying the town’s residential rate recommendation moves from about $18.76 to $21.32 per household. He described negotiated protections including written cart (trash-bin) replacement terms covering up to 400 units, and a 5% cost-of-living adjustment in interim years. Joe noted the town pays residential collection costs through its millage rate — roughly a high-$300,000 annual town expense — and that the proposed rate remains competitive with peer municipalities.
Council moved to approve the agreement and passed the motion by voice vote.
Council members and staff said the town and vendor each gave concessions in negotiation but that the contract provides continuity of service and budget predictability. Waste Management representatives were present in the audience but did not make substantive comments on the record.
