The Friendship Heights Village Council unanimously approved a contract with The Traffic Group to perform a single-phase pedestrian safety study covering 10 intersections for $83,500.
Treasurer John Conlow and staff reviewed six responses to the RFP and recommended The Traffic Group, a Baltimore-based firm that had proposed a single-phase study with detailed deliverables including video analytics, community outreach and timing adjustments for senior pedestrians. Conlow said the proposal would cost $83,500 in one phase versus $91,000 if done in two phases.
Chair Martha Soult moved adoption of the Traffic Group proposal and a second was recorded; the council voted unanimously to award the work. Council members stressed the study’s focus on practical improvements and coordination with Montgomery County for recommended intersection changes. Council Member Klein noted technologies that activate when a pedestrian approaches a crosswalk and said such measures could be effective for older residents.
