Jody M. Slaughter sworn in to Norfolk Public Schools board

Jody M. Slaughter was ceremonially sworn in before the Norfolk Public Schools board and an audience in the district’s work session. George Schafer, clerk of the Norfolk City Court, certified Slaughter’s election and administered the oath, which covers a term beginning 11/17/2025 and expiring 12/31/2026 for the special election seat.
Slaughter, who told the board she has worked as a mental health professional and described herself as “an investor in Norfolk City Public Schools,” thanked campaign volunteers and supporters and said she will focus on two priorities: partnering with the community to support students and asking, for every action, whether it is in the best interest of scholars.
After the swearing-in, the chair invited attendees to a reception and called the board’s 4 p.m. work session to order, at which time regular agenda items began.
