At its Dec. 18 meeting the Riverside Unified School District board elected Noemí Hernández Alexander as 2026 president, named Dr. Tweet vice president and Amanda Vickers secretary, and approved a 2026 meeting calendar amended to drop one June business meeting and add seven workshops focused on student achievement and data.
Noemí Hernández Alexander was elected board president for 2026 during Riverside Unified School District’s Dec. 18 meeting, the board announced after members cast their votes. The board also selected Dr. Tweet as vice president and Amanda Vickers as secretary for the coming year.
The board then debated and approved a revised 2026 meeting calendar. A motion to adopt the calendar with modifications — which would remove one of two June business meetings and add seven workshop days for deep dives on student achievement and strategic priorities — passed 4–2. The motion was seconded before a period of discussion in which board members pressed for clear topic lists and advance scheduling for the proposed workshops.
Supporters said the extra workshop days would allow focused reviews of student-performance data, special education, and career-technical education without extending nightly meeting times. ‘‘We need intentional time on our calendar to dig into student achievement and monitor progress,’’ said a board member during debate. Others cautioned that reducing regular board business meetings might be perceived as decreased accessibility and urged the board to publish workshop agendas and retain opportunities for public input.
The newly elected officers and the calendar change take effect immediately; the board also instructed staff to return in January with workshop topics and proposed dates for the additional sessions. The board briefly recessed following the votes and resumed with the rest of the agenda.
