Council member Teresa Nunez said the CEA board will consider possible rate changes in January and encouraged residents to attend and provide public comment. Deputy Mayor Sunnell cautioned against premature social‑media posts that might add confusion and suggested the council invite CEA staff to present details in person so the city’s communications align with the utility’s customer outreach.
Council asked staff to coordinate a presentation — with preliminary projections if available — and agreed that once final rates are released the city can link to CEA materials from the city website rather than posting speculative figures.
CEA staff are expected to present an update in January; Council member Nunez said the board meeting will likely be Jan. 22 in Encinitas and suggested the city schedule a briefing around that timeline.
The council did not take formal action but requested staff follow up to ensure a coordinated community outreach plan.
