St. Clair Shores approves $371,265 contract for universally accessible Kite Monroe playground

"Total approved budget for this was $367,287. We are bringing forward to you, total cost on this project of $371,265," Spinazzola said on the record.
The subcommittee recommended Sinclair's proposal after reviewing three bids; council members discussed moving the playground closer to the parking lot to improve visibility, accessibility and safety and noted that moving it forward reduced required new paving (offsetting part of the cost). One council member referred to an approximate $60,000 discount in Sinclair's proposal, which the subcommittee said increased value for the cost.
Council member Marucci moved to approve option 2 with the 20% contingency as required by CDBG; the motion was supported and carried 6-0.
What happens next: staff will finalize contract details with the selected vendor, implement the amended CDBG budget, and coordinate bench placement and any theming or sponsorships consistent with the project's fall-zone and accessibility constraints.
