At the board meeting, Commissioner Guyton asked for clarification about the status of US Water’s contract, which members understood was nearing an end in December.
Director Patrick Neiman and staff deferred to the city attorney for final legal guidance but told the board that US Water will continue to provide maintenance support until the purchase order (PO) is exhausted. City staff estimated the PO-funded services will continue through about February; no additional monies have been added to the contract beyond funds previously appropriated by legislative action of the board.
Neiman explained US Water’s current role: the firm previously identified critical water-plant components and completed high-priority rehabilitation work, and now is primarily performing ongoing maintenance and repairs. Staff also confirmed that US Water does not maintain on-site embedded staffing but works as a general contractor performing scheduled maintenance visits.
Board members said they want staff to return if contractors cannot meet needs or if additional help is required. One commissioner emphasized the board’s priority of providing “safe, clean, quality water” and urged Neiman to notify the board when further resources are needed.
Staff also said they have training records and attendance logs from the training US Water provided and will make those available to board members.
No vote was required on this clarification; the board accepted the staff explanation and moved on to other business.
