Missoula County staff told commissioners that the county completed its annual inspection of the detention facility and will file the inspection letter required under Montana law. Staff noted the county delegates day-to-day oversight of jail operations to the sheriff but retains statutory responsibility to inspect the facility for policies, procedures and inmate care.
"Yearly, you're required by state law to inspect the jail to make sure that it is in working order," staff said, adding the recent tour was led by Commander Ziegler.
Separately, staff described a letter from the Ravalli County commissioners asking members of the congressional delegation not to endorse including the Sheep Creek Mine in the EPA FAST-41 program, a federal expedited review tool. Staff said the delegation had expressed opposition and that the Missoula County letter would add the countys voice to that position.
The board received both letters and the items were reported as part of routine administrative business. Staff also reminded commissioners of an upcoming swearing-in for Mr. Brinkley on Thursday morning in the Sophie and Louise room at roughly 10:30 a.m.
