Missoula County commissioners approved several appointments and reappointments during their meeting, filling an immediate vacancy on the Seeley Lake Fire District board and confirming community volunteers across local boards.
For the Seeley Lake Fire District, staff said there were four applicants for the partial term through May 31, 2027: Mike Weigel, Christy Pullman, Alyssa McLean and Bree Dihem. Commissioners moved to appoint Mike Weigel. A commissioner noted Weigels national and local experience in fire safety, saying he presented as "a real authority." The motion to appoint Weigel passed by voice vote.
Staff also recommended reappointing Shauna Dishman Hober to the Florence Carlton Cemetery board, Pamela Boyd to the county health board for a three-year term, and three individuals to the Historical Museum Board (names recorded in the meeting include Jean Nye / Jean Balangi, John Rimmel and James Sadler). Each reappointment was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
One commissioner asked why the fire district seat is appointed rather than elected; staff explained that under state law the county commissioners fill open vacancies on fire boards that occur between election terms and, depending on timing, the seat may later appear on a special district election ballot.
The appointments address multiple volunteer and oversight roles across county services; the transcript records no dissenting votes on these items.
