Woodlawn manager outlines Juneteenth closures, sidewalk grants and environmental hold on Taconic parking lot

Manager reported that Woodlawn Boulevard will be closed for Juneteenth event setup starting Friday, June 13 and reopening on or before midnight June 20 to accommodate staging and pre-events. The manager said the village is coordinating road-closure postcards to residents and will have Juneteenth patrols in place; staff also asked for volunteers to help with event staffing.
On capital projects, the village is pursuing multiple grants: a Community Heart & Soul planning grant for a master-plan update, a Safe Routes planning grant and a SORTA application to extend sidewalks on Riddle Road. Manager said OKI repaving and MRF/OPWC culvert repair applications are in development, and a major OKI transportation alternatives grant—if awarded—would construct sidewalks connecting Timberland subdivision to Chester and Marion to Springfield Pike.
A Hamilton County revitalization grant intended to fund a parking lot on Taconic Terrace is under redesign after consultants identified that the original fill site is an old fill area that triggers additional environmental work if excavations exceed four feet. Manager said the engineering team is amending plans to avoid deep excavation so the project can be bid within weeks.
Manager also announced ongoing sidewalk work on Glendale Milford Road, Wayne Avenue improvement coordination with utility providers, completion of pedestrian-bridge lighting and floodlights at the Woodlawn swimming pool, and Marion Road drainage projects expected to begin construction in 2026. Grant-funded projects will return to council when bid-ready.
