Michael and Captain Strange traveled to Yale, Michigan, inspected a 2001 Freightliner Ferrara pumper‑tanker and purchased it for $60,000 after negotiating from an original $70,000 asking price. Michael said the department covered fuel for the trip and that insurance is issuing a check related to the prior wreck.
The rig is reported to be in good condition with roughly 18,000 miles; Michael said it is narrower than the wrecked vehicle, can carry a crew cab and has a 1,250‑gallon pump/tank and an onboard PTO generator. The department expects to receive the apparatus around the new year.
