Woodlawn swears in new police officer and detective

The Village of Woodlawn formally welcomed two new members of its police force during the Aug. 26 council meeting.
Benjamin (Ben) Dicker took the oath of office after Mayor Poole introduced him and recounted his path to the department and academy. Dicker repeated the oath, including: "I will never betray my badge...I do solemnly swear I will uphold the constitution of the United States of America," language recorded in the meeting minutes.
The mayor also introduced Patrick (named in the meeting transcript as "Patrick Sutlick" and later transcribed as "Patrick Sulloch") as a new detective. He likewise recited the oath to serve as a detective and police officer, affirming to uphold the constitutions, bylaws and laws of the state and the village charter.
Chief Williams and other staff joined in welcoming the officers; the mayor invited family forward for photographs after each swearing-in. The presentations were ceremonial and the council publicly acknowledged the officers' service to the community.
