Mt. Healthy — City Manager Bauer reported Nov. 5 that the city received a $55,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award for code enforcement to be spent over 2025 and 2026, and that a separate $32,000 grant will fully fund a rescue tool (commonly known as a 'jaws of life') for use by emergency responders.
Bauer told council that the county rejected the city's $150,000 parks request, saying parks projects were deprioritized in the current round; he said the county favored code enforcement and façade programs. Bauer said parks projects that are ADA‑related tend to score higher with reviewers.
On the Antique Mall property, Bauer said an asbestos remediation crew was on site to remove hazardous material and that demolition should follow once inspectors give an all‑clear; he indicated demolition is expected by the end of the year, pending clearance.
The $55,000 CDBG award is intended to support code enforcement work over two years (2025–26). The $32,000 rescue‑tool grant is 100% grant‑funded, according to Bauer. No council vote was needed for the grant announcements; these items were reported as administrative updates during the city manager's report.
Council did not take formal action during the report but asked clarifying questions about grant status and project timing. Staff said they will follow up with more detail as they finalize procurement and scheduling.
