Local volunteers, library and partners report successful backpack giveaway; Third Century describes facade work

At public comment, resident Sierra George told council the two-day backpack event—run with Emmanuel Church and local partners—distributed more than 200 backpacks on the first day and ultimately impacted roughly 400 families, providing shoes, school supplies and a range of donated items. "We impacted over 400 families," George said during the meeting, and she thanked volunteers, the library and donors for supporting the drive.
Separately, Dave Osterde, representing Third Century Mount Healthy, described the group’s work on commercial façade improvements. He said the initial county grant for Angelo’s storefront amounted to $25,000, but contractor quotes pushed the project cost above the grant. "Our quote came in at over $70,000," Osterde said; he told council the county provided additional funds so the project could proceed and the group plans to publish an application process to allow other local businesses to apply for façade assistance through the city website.
Library and park staff also briefed council: the library’s interior work and site finishes are on schedule for a temporary certificate of occupancy in September and a grand opening in early November; the parks commission reported a strong turnout for the summer concert series and plans for a movie night in the park.
Council members commended the volunteer groups and asked staff to post application details and project photographs online so residents and business owners can see results and apply for future façade funding.
