Thurston County commissioners on Dec. 19 authorized a technical correction to departmental coding for REIT 2 operating transfers after staff discovered a data-entry error in the budget system.
The County Manager introduced the agenda item and thanked Auditor’s Office staff for helping identify a solution. Summer, the county budget and finance manager, said the issue was a departmental entry error that had placed an operating transfer under Public Works (department code 460) instead of the Commissioner's Office (060) for REIT 2 transfers included in amendment 3 of the 2024–2025 biennial budget. Summer described the change as a “very quick technical correction on the financial services side.”
An unidentified speaker moved that the county manager be authorized to direct staff to correct the department code from 460PublicWorks to 060 Commissioner's Office for the specified transfers; a second was recorded and the Board voted to approve the correction. Commissioners verbally stated “aye,” and the chair declared the motion carried unanimously.
The change adjusts accounting coding to reflect the intended departmental responsibility for previously recorded transfers. Staff said they will implement the correction and stand by for any further questions; no additional policy changes or funding reallocations were described in the meeting record.
