The Beaumont City Council directed staff on Dec. 16 to move forward with option 1, a patriotic decorative design for three crosswalks on Beaumont Avenue in the downtown area.
Economic development staff said the design work was meant to visually define the downtown and could improve pedestrian visibility at Beaumont Avenue crossings. The proposed locations included Beaumont Avenue at 6th, 7th and 8th streets. Staff noted thermoplastic materials would be used for longevity; council asked about maintenance and how burnouts or vandalism would be addressed. Public safety and engineering staff noted the crosswalks will include the required white outline (and a yellow outline where the crossing is a school crosswalk) to meet safety standards.
Councilmembers generally favored option 1 (and asked to omit a tire/burnout graphic included in earlier mockups). Council directed staff to proceed with procurement and installation using the city's downtown program funds identified in the staff report. Councilmember Martinez and others asked staff to confirm funding and program account details before procurement.
Staff will return with procurement details and schedules; installation will follow established public‑works processes and material standards to ensure safety compliance.
