Safety committee previews cameras, COPS grant application and speed-hump options

Mt. Healthy — At the Nov. 5 meeting the Safety Committee chair, Mr. Redding, briefed council on multiple public-safety initiatives and infrastructure changes being considered for 2025.
"We have additional Flock cameras now in the budget for 2025," Mr. Redding said, describing plans to expand camera coverage. He also noted the committee discussed adding a police officer to help with traffic enforcement and said the city plans to apply for the COPS grant for 2025.
Redding said consultants working on the Hamilton Avenue corridor had suggested traffic-calming measures. The committee is weighing portable, pseudo-temporary speed humps, which a staff member reported would cost less than previously estimated, against installing permanent speed humps; Redding said council should expect further discussion in January with the goal of installing measures in spring.
Other items included a review of retail hours (noting some establishments are closed overnight), completion of 36 fire inspections for businesses this year and feedback from the Liquor License Enforcement Board that the city could purchase a liquor license for its own use if council wished to pursue that option.
Council members asked staff to continue gathering data and to bring procurement and scheduling details back to committee and council for subsequent action.
