Antigo board discusses central office plan, says referendum language covers administrative building; staff recommends early partnership with Myron Construction

Board discussion at the Unified School District of Antigo meeting focused on next steps for referendum-funded projects and a proposed standalone central office. Director of buildings and grounds Jake Leiterman told trustees the recently completed elementary project came in under budget and that deferred maintenance across the district remains to be addressed. He recommended bringing Myron Construction onto the project early for construction management because the company is already mobilized on-site for the elementary project and could reduce mobilization and procurement costs.

Several trustees asked about transparency and whether the proposed administrative building was part of the referendum. Multiple members said the administrative office was included in the referendum language as a later-listed item and that administration had routinely discussed that scope at public meetings. Board members and staff cited favorable bids as enabling the board to address additional deferred-maintenance items within the referendum budget.

Leiterman said floor plans and square-footage estimates were still under development and that early engagement with a construction manager could produce budgeting information within about four to six weeks. One trustee asked administration to check with the attorneys (Quarles & Brady) to ensure that bringing Myron back under the referendum framework complies with ballot language; the superintendent agreed to consult counsel and report back.

What’s next: staff will continue design and budgeting work for the central office, consult with legal counsel about procurement and referendum language, and return to the board with recommendations.
