Mount Healthy—At its April 15 meeting the council received a series of department updates from the city manager, public works and building inspection, and the fire chief on infrastructure and property‑maintenance issues affecting public safety and downtown redevelopment.
Public works said crews have been rebuilding a collapsed storm drain on Hastings (work takes time because of old construction), and that pothole and alley repairs await drier conditions. The city manager said the pool is scheduled to open June 1 with rates unchanged and that a pool staff meeting is set for May 3 to prepare for the season.
Building inspection and fire officials reported continuing enforcement work at Hilltop Plaza (the former Kroger site), where shared walls and structural concerns have delayed demolition and required structural engineers’ input. Fire Chief Steve Lawson said recent inspections found some minor infractions at Trustee Tires and more significant issues at Hilltop; the city is coordinating inspection and enforcement and preparing a fee/fine structure to encourage compliance.
Council also heard parks updates: a Mulberry Festival and summer concert series are planned for June, and the parks commission is working on ODNR grant materials for play‑equipment upgrades.
Council directed staff to return with more detailed timelines, an inspection summary for Hilltop Plaza, and follow-up on drainage and street‑repair schedules.
