Resident asks Indio council to press code enforcement over alleged pump-house noise

A resident who spends part of the year in Indio told the council he and his wife hear continuous, loud pump-house noise from a nearby facility and that an inspection by city staff found the noise audible inside the home — which he said violates the city's noise ordinance.
Gordon Smith said he filed a complaint with code enforcement on Nov. 1 and that building inspection and code enforcement staff visited the property; he said the code-enforcement preliminary report confirmed the pumps were audible from inside his home. Smith said the Superior Court had asked the city police department to investigate for his civil claim and asked the council to have the city attorney review his letter and to direct staff to issue the written warning and abatement notice required by the ordinance.
Mayor Holmes acknowledged the comment and staff said they had received Mr. Smith's materials and would follow up; the city attorney offered to speak with Mr. Smith after adjournment.
No formal action was taken during the meeting; staff indicated follow-up contact and a review of the complainant's documents and the code-enforcement findings would occur after the meeting.
