Council appoints Chris Populis to Tree Commission, hears tree-planting plan

The Mt. Healthy City Council voted to appoint Chris Populis to the city’s Tree Commission and heard details about a volunteer tree-planting event scheduled for Perry Street.
Mayor introduced the appointee and invited Populis to describe his experience. Populis said he previously worked with conservation corps programs out West, builds salmon habitat and mountain-bike trails and currently serves as the youth program director and land manager for Teekin Farms. “I currently work as the youth program director for Chacon Farm, and, as their land manager,” Populis said.
Dwight Weesey told the council the planting is set for Saturday at 9:00 a.m.; he said crews are staging trees at Teekin Farms and the effort has 17 trees ready for planting, with additional youth-group work possibly occurring beforehand. Volunteers do not need prior experience, Weesey said, and will be trained and organized into small groups.
Mister Cordell moved to approve the appointment; Miss Dosa seconded. Council approved the volunteer appointment by voice vote.
The planting and the commission appointment are intended to support the city’s urban-forestry goals; staff noted the city recently secured an urban-forestry grant and will receive guidance on operating the grant at a forthcoming kickoff meeting.
