Sierra George, CEO of Peachtree Advocacy, addressed Mt. Healthy City Council during public comment to request donations, volunteers and vendor participation for the group's annual school-supply event.
George said the event will be held at Mount Healthy Park on Aug. 16 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and that Peachtree is “soliciting donations” and volunteers to support a one-day distribution. "We served over 700 families" at the previous event, she told council, and described ongoing summer programming including a new Camp Peachtree and a Roots mentorship program for transitional youth.
George asked council members to consider attending or promoting the event and mentioned partnerships with Love in Action (the nonprofit arm of Emmanuel Church) and GEAR UP. She offered contact information on a sign-up form and asked for small donations (even a dollar can buy two folders) to expand outreach.
Council thanked George and acknowledged the Parks Commission's role in listing the backpack event on the city calendar. No formal action was taken by council on this request.
