Norwalk’s City Council completed its annual reorganization Tuesday, selecting Jennifer Perez as mayor and Margarita Rios as vice mayor for 2026.
The session began with the Housing Authority reorganization, where council members moved and voted to install Mayor Perez as chair and Councilmember Margarita Rios as vice chair of the Housing Authority. After the brief Housing Authority business, the regular city council meeting convened and the council’s change in leadership was recognized during remarks and the meeting recap video.
Mayor Perez and Vice Mayor Rios were congratulated by council colleagues during councilmember comments and in a city-produced recap that said the selection was made by unanimous vote. The mayor highlighted upcoming events and county-level coordination on homeless-services Measure A funding; the new leadership will take those issues into next year’s agenda.
The council’s reorganization was procedural and concluded without additional policy decisions. The council adjourned the reorganization items and continued with the regular agenda.
