KANE COUNTY — Kane County’s Public Health Committee on Dec. 17 approved a resolution authorizing an agreement with the Illinois Department of Human Services to reallocate $100,000 to the county for the Illinois Rapid Rehousing Program in state fiscal year 2026.
Chair Sheryl Strathman introduced the item and asked staff to briefly describe it. County staff said the money was reallocated after a community partner could not utilize its award; the reallocation will support the county’s rehousing efforts. The committee approved the resolution by unanimous consent with no objections recorded.
During discussion, committee members raised concerns that broader, incoming cuts to housing supports and changes to health‑care programs (noted during the meeting as expected to take effect by Dec. 31) could significantly increase demand for rehousing funds. One member asked staff for an estimate of scale — whether $100,000 would support a small number of families or be stretched across many — and staff committed to tracking demand and reporting back as need becomes clearer.
