Sunbury proclaims Dec. 17 ‘Dave Martin Appreciation Day’ as council honors longtime public servant

The Sunbury City Council on Dec. 17 proclaimed the day “Dave Martin Appreciation Day” and held an extended recognition for councilor Dave Martin, who is leaving the council at the end of his term.
Mayor Joe St. John read a proclamation outlining Martin’s decades of local service—service as a Kingston Township trustee (1986–1997), member of the Big Walnut Local School District board (1998–2007), village administrator (2007–2014), and councilor (appointed 2017 and elected to a full term beginning 2018). The proclamation also noted Martin’s involvement in the chamber of commerce, Rotary Club, community events such as Sunbury’s Christmas on the Square, and other civic activities.
Council members and guests gave personal remarks praising Martin’s mentorship, community knowledge and longstanding civic engagement. The council presented Martin with a ceremonial key to the city and invited attendees to a photo and reception. Martin thanked colleagues and residents and said the community ‘‘is what makes it home.’’
The recognition concluded with lighthearted remarks and a small reception; the council then recessed into executive session later in the meeting for personnel matters and returned to complete appointments and adjourn.
