Shaw County hears fire-weather briefing and KBDI readings; court takes no burn-ban action

County emergency and fire staff briefed the Commissioners Court on Dec. 16 about recent grass fires, forecasted high winds and warm temperatures later in the week, and current burn-index readings; the court did not impose a burn ban at the meeting.
Dwayne (county fire/emergency staff) summarized recent incidents and a forecast showing Thursday and Saturday with elevated risk — gusts over 40 mph on Thursday and temperatures near 80°F on Saturday. He reported KBDI/KBBI values for regional monitoring points, noting Wichita Falls/Wichita County averaged 4.69 and Will Barker registered 5.82; he said the commonly used trigger number for issuing a burn ban is 575. "The trigger number again is 575," he said, and recommended continuing to monitor conditions and consult local fire chiefs.
Commissioners discussed the forecasts and asked that the item remain on the agenda for continuing review. No motion was made to enact a county burn ban during the session; emergency staff said they would update the court after the next set of weather observations.
