Engineer: J.R. Smith Park low bid close to estimate; recommendation to council expected in January

At a Dec. 12 bid opening reported Dec. 17, the city engineer said three bids were received for J.R. Smith Park; the low bid of $3.57 million was about 1% above the $3.55 million engineer estimate and a design-team recommendation will go to council in January.
The city’s engineer reported that the long-awaited bid opening for J.R. Smith Park occurred Dec. 12 and produced three bids. The engineer’s estimate was reported as just over $3,550,000; the low bid was $3,570,000, approximately 1% higher than the estimate.
City Engineer Missus Otabrowski said staff and the design team (Redantis) have reviewed the submissions for accuracy and that Redantis recommended awarding the contract; the formal recommendation will be brought to council in January. Otabrowski also noted some winter weather has delayed other projects, including a parking-lot project and striping, and she said Delco Water Company’s Cherry Street waterline work is delayed three to four weeks.
Councilors responded with brief thanks and holiday wishes; no formal contract award was taken at the Dec. 17 meeting. The administration said it will return to council in January with a recommendation for award and any required contract documents.
