Shaw County to raise some poll-worker hourly rates for 2026; officials urge sign-ups

Elections staff presented proposed increases to poll-worker pay for 2026 and encouraged residents to sign up for election work at the Shaw County Commissioners Court meeting on Dec. 16.
Robin, representing the elections office, said the office is proposing to raise presiding judges from $12 an hour to $13, election-day clerks from $10 to $11, and early-voting clerks from $12 to $13. "We are looking at changing these... from $12 an hour to $13 an hour. Election day clerks from $10 an hour to $11 an hour, and then all early voting clerks from $12 an hour to $13 an hour," Robin said, and described sign-up options: an online poll-worker interest form, phone calls to the office, or in-person visits. Robin also noted that training is paid at the same hourly rate.
The County Judge told the court that commissioners had included funds in the 2026 budget assuming the proposed rates, and that the necessary appropriation is already accounted for. Commissioners urged residents to sign up and explained the office maintains a backup list to fill shifts when needed.
The presentation was given before the consent agenda, and commissioners did not take separate formal action beyond noting that the budget contains the funding assumptions. The elections office will continue recruitment and scheduling work ahead of the 2026 election calendar.
