Resident asks council to review traffic safety at 10th Avenue and Arthur Street after two recent crashes
Summary
Resident Michael Meyer told the City Council two crashes in six months — including one that required extrication — have made the intersection of 10th Avenue and Arthur Street dangerous and asked for a traffic safety review, stop signs or other calming measures; police said they will investigate and suggested increased enforcement.

Michael Meyer, a resident of Arthur Street, asked the City Council on Monday evening to request a traffic safety review and to consider installing stop signs at the intersection of 10th Avenue and Arthur Street, saying two crashes in the past six months — the most recent requiring use of the jaws of life — have made the crossing hazardous.
"This intersection has become increasingly dangerous," Meyer said, noting children, pedestrians, cyclists and seniors use the area daily. "We are deeply concerned that without action, a serious injury or death is only a matter of time away."
Council members and police staff asked follow-up questions about when the crashes occurred and the location of the nearby school bus stop. Officers and council members suggested stepped-up enforcement as an immediate measure and offered to study longer-term engineering options. The chief said he would "look into it."
Meyer told the council several neighbors support the request and recounted a history of collisions at the location; a neighbor reported more crashes over decades. City staff confirmed the neighborhood speed limit is 25 mph and noted enforcement and signage are common first steps before installing new stop controls.
The council did not take immediate action but encouraged residents to return with additional complaints if problems persist and urged staff to examine potential traffic-calming options, including signage, speed reductions and enforcement schedules.
The item was raised during the public comment portion of the meeting; no formal agenda motion or vote was recorded on the stop-sign request.
