Select Board member Peter updated the Town of Hubbardston on Dec. 15 about efforts behind the scenes to form the Central Mass Regional Emergency Communication Center out of the former Rutland Regional Dispatch and said another town (Auburn) is considering joining.
Peter said members have been pursuing greater transparency and organizational separation from the town of Rutland and that the new center expects to seek grant funding through 9-1-1 programs to cover startup costs and equipment. "There's a lot of grant money out there through the 9 1 1 system," he said, and added the change will require finding a building and setting up equipment; officials expect the transition could take about two years.
No formal action or vote was requested at the Dec. 15 meeting; Peter said he will report back after a meeting in Rutland where paperwork and signatures may be required.
The board acknowledged the update and will await further documentation and potential signature requests in coming weeks.
