During the Dec. 15 meeting, Speaker 4 reported county-level actions that will affect Tipton’s utility flows.
Doctors Park lift station: Speaker 4 told the board that county commissioners received two quotes at roughly $300,000 each to complete a lift station and associated piping to allow Doctor Scott’s sewage to be sent into the Tipton utility system. Speaker 4 said the county plans to pay for that work; Tipton’s role will begin when sewage flows start and the utility will bill based on usage.
Fairgrounds campground study: Speaker 4 also reported that the fairgrounds board is exploring adding more permanent campground sites and the county approved about $35,000 to conduct a study required to satisfy state approval before any further design or construction. He noted the fairgrounds already take Tipton water and discharge sewage into Tipton’s system, so the additional campground sites would likely add incremental flow to the utility.
Estimated customer impact: In response to a question from an attendee, Speaker 4 referenced a prior calculation estimating sewer charges for Doctors Park at about $125–$150 per month based on expected water usage. Speaker 4 said he was not aware of any direct utility expenses anticipated for these county-funded projects but that the utility will bill for increased flows when they occur.
Next steps: Staff will accept flows when connections are completed and will monitor billing impacts; the county’s study and construction decisions will determine the actual timing and scale of additional utility loads.
