Sandusky programs report: Midtown Summer Club wins state honors; race turnout and youth programs praised

Speaker 3, who oversees programming updates, said Midtown Summer Club was named a two-time "best of the best" winner in Ohio and will receive an award at the Kalahari on Feb. 3. "We are so delighted with that," Speaker 3 said, noting the program is also in contention for a governor's award that includes a $500 check for charity. She described season 8 plans that include an intergenerational entertainment piece in collaboration with Serving Our Seniors.

Speaker 2 reported special events highlights: the ninth annual race drew about 205 participants, compared with a typical 115–125, and organizers are already planning the 10th anniversary. Speaker 2 also summarized the return of an adult volleyball league: six teams played a shortened season in Jackson, concluding regular play with a planned tournament and awards night at Cameo.

Speaker 3 gave recognition to volunteers at the Mills out-of-school homework program, naming multiple helpers (Mary Truka, Jan Carver, Virginia Orr, Chris Elise and Mary Anne Baxter) and said 34 children in the ABC club earned reward outings. "These kids really work hard to be in ABC club," Speaker 3 said, asking the board to do a year-end shout-out for the volunteers.

Staff and members discussed registration timing, program sign-ups (noting the 20th of each month is when families can register for the following month) and food partners that will provide meals during winter break camp (Berardi's, Lee's Chicken, Chick-fil-A, Pizza House East, United Way and Subway were all named). No new program funding decisions were recorded in these segments.
