Roselle finance director outlines water and sewer rate increases effective Jan. 2026

Roselle officials presented proposed water and sewer rate changes the board will consider as part of the 2026 budget.
Finance Director Tom Dahl said the draft ordinance calls for a $1.00 increase per 1,000 gallons on the water rate and a capital improvement surcharge (CIS) increase of $1.25 per 1,000 gallons. Sewage charges would rise by $0.26/1,000 gallons for DuPage customers and $0.14/1,000 gallons for Cook customers. The new rates would take effect for bills generated after Jan. 15, 2026 (usage after Jan. 1). Dahl said the increases are intended to cover the cost of water purchased through the DuPage Water Commission, contract and commodity cost inflation, salary increases and to prepare for future significant infrastructure needs such as IEPA loan repayments and sewer replacement projects.
Board members noted Roselle’s rates remain broadly comparable to neighboring communities and that water is an expensive commodity with significant fixed costs in delivery and treatment. The proposed rate changes will appear on the board’s agenda for approval on the next meeting date; no final vote was taken Dec. 2.
