Communications staff reports radio project progress, increased CAD volume and grant status for emergency management

Communications staff briefed the Sawyer County Public Safety Committee on dispatch and emergency management activity, saying weekly meetings continue with Gencom on the county radio project and computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) volume increased by about 600 calls for the month, with year‑to‑date calls totaling 6,120.
Staff said several dispatchers attended advanced peer‑support training in La Crosse and that dispatch now has the ability to view body‑cam feeds from LCO conservation wardens if needed. Communications staff also said they now have access to Winter School District cameras, including Hazel School, for situational awareness in dispatch.
On grants, the staffer said they are finishing the application for the 2026 EPRA grant but cannot apply for the EMPG grant because the state has not yet accepted that program's application this cycle. They also noted they are closing out a HAZMAT grant and that the department worked closely with public health and LCO during a Thanksgiving winter storm to coordinate warming shelters and resource sharing.
The committee accepted the communications and emergency management update; no formal actions were recorded.
