Council honors Councilmember Scarborough for decade of service

The Benoit City Council paused its regular business on Dec. 9 to honor Council Member Kirk Scarborough for roughly 10 years of service. The mayor opened the recognition with an on‑screen video and invited councilmember remarks.
Multiple council members praised Scarborough's military service, long tenure and focus on transportation, homelessness and community presence. Council Member Walker said he had considered running against Scarborough before deciding to withdraw and later serve alongside him. Council Member Fisher described Scarborough as “a great man” and emphasized his accessibility to constituents. Several colleagues recounted anecdotes of Scarborough’s involvement at community events and with city staff.
Scarborough accepted a plaque and introduced family members, thanking city staff, mentors and his wife Beverly and sons Leroy and Morgan. He praised staff assistance—naming Deborah Knight—and reflected on a close earlier election and the support he received from staff and former employees. Scarborough said a younger voice will replace him on the council and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
The recognition was ceremonial; no formal personnel action occurred during the meeting. After the presentation the council paused briefly and resumed regular agenda business.
