The Highland Park City Council approved the FY2026 budget as part of a 19‑item omnibus package on Nov. 24, adopting a $131,000,000 overall budget, 274 full‑time equivalent positions and a $40,000,000 capital improvement plan.
Mayor Nancy Rotering praised the budget in remarks to the council, calling it a balanced plan that emphasizes fiscal stability and public safety. "This is a $131,000,000 budget with 274 full time equivalents... and a capital improvement plan of $40,000,000," the mayor said, and thanked staff and elected officials for their work.
City Manager Geeta Newkirk and finance staff noted the budget process included workshops and public updates through the year and that budget documents and monthly financial reports are available on the city website. The council approved omnibus items 1–3, 5 and 7–19 by roll call (7 ayes, 0 nays), which included the budget approval.
The mayor and staff framed the budget as a multi‑year investment in infrastructure, program delivery and community priorities. Council members praised staff collaboration and noted that implementation details and monitoring will continue as part of regular reporting.
