Talbot County grants letters of support for SAR portrait grant and museum HVAC request

Talbot County Council voted to provide two letters of support during the Dec. 9 meeting: one for the Colonel Tench Tillman chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) to assist a Maryland State Arts Council grant application to commission and hang a portrait in the county courthouse, and a second for the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s FY27 request for $740,000 to replace an HVAC system in an exhibit building.
Wes Haygood, president of the Colonel Tench Tillman SAR chapter, told the council his chapter prepared an AI‑generated head‑and‑shoulders image of Colonel Tench Tillman from existing profile images and requested a county letter allowing the artist access to hang the portrait in the courthouse if the grant is awarded. County manager Clay Stamp stressed no county funds were being requested and said staff would obtain signatures the following day.
On the museum request, Stamp told the council the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is seeking $740,000 in state capital funding to replace one exhibit building HVAC unit; again, no county funds were requested and the council approved a letter of support.
Both motions passed on recorded voice votes. Staff will prepare the signed letters for submission before the relevant grant deadlines.
