The Catawba County Board of Education unanimously elected Tim Sedlmeier as chair and April Underwood as vice chair for 2026, approved a slate of committee assignments and established a separate Mental Health Advisory Board with Miss Teague and Miss Underwood named as members.
The Catawba County Board of Education unanimously elected Tim Sedlmeier chair and April Underwood vice chair for the 2026 term, during its Dec. 15 regular meeting. Nominations came from board members during the chair-and-vice-chair selection process and both were elected without opposition.
Dr. Matt Stover opened the floor for nominations and a board member nominated Tim Sedlmeier for chair. "Hearing none, all in favor? That's unanimous," Stover said after no other nominations were made. For vice chair, a board member nominated April Underwood; board members again approved the nomination unanimously.
After officer elections, the board reviewed and approved a slate of committee representatives covering the AIG advisory board, LEP advisory/dual language committee, Title I parent advisory council, school health advisory, legislative liaisons, spelling bee coordination, hearing panels and Early Head Start. The board added a separate Mental Health Advisory Board—distinct from student health—and appointed Miss Teague and Miss Underwood to that panel.
The committee slate, updated to include the mental health advisory membership, was moved and approved by voice/raised-hand vote. The board indicated printed rosters will be circulated to members.
The actions formalize leadership and committee roles ahead of the new calendar year and assign members to ongoing advisory and appeals responsibilities.
