MIDDLETOWN — The City Council authorized an internal transfer of $20,779.71 to buy five new desk units for the Public Works office after staff described the current furniture as worn, scratched and not at an appropriate working height.
Presenting the request, a city staff member said the desks required shims to prevent drawers from creating trip hazards and that some drawers no longer stay closed. The presenter said the city would use New York State contract PC 727286 pricing, which avoids a separate bid process. "The justification is the current units are not at a comfortable working height," the presenter said.
Councilor Rodriguez sponsored the transfer and council approved it by voice vote. Staff said usable desks would be repurposed elsewhere in the department where feasible.
Next steps: Procurement will proceed under the state contract and staff will document repurposing or disposal of replaced units.
