MCPS board spotlights Special Education Day, Inclusive Schools Week and Quince Orchard state champions

At the start of its meeting the board recognized Special Education Day/IDEA 50th anniversary, celebrated Inclusive Schools Week and honored Quince Orchard High School’s Class 4A state football championship, sharing resolutions and certificates of recognition.
The Montgomery County Board of Education opened its meeting with short recognitions. Board members celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and recognized Special Education Day, highlighting the division of specialized support services and a range of staff and programs that support students with disabilities.
Board member Natalie Zimmerman recognized Inclusive Schools Week and emphasized the district’s apprenticeship/work‑based learning program operated by the Department of Special Education that provides paid, on‑the‑job training and may lead to future employment.
Board member Brenda Wolf introduced Quince Orchard High School’s football team and recognized the Quince Orchard Cougars for winning the Maryland 4A state championship; she and the board awarded congratulations and invited the team and staff to the dais.
The recognitions were presented before the board moved into its regular business meeting and public comment period.
