Ocean View board elects new officers, reorganizes subcommittees

On Dec. 9 the Ocean View School District board elected Clayton Tarvin president (3-1-1), Patricia Singer vice president (4-0-1) and Trustee Souders clerk (4-0-1); trustees created new subcommittees on property, fields and special programs and reassigned others.
The Ocean View School District Board of Trustees completed its annual reorganization Dec. 9, electing Clerk Clayton Tarvin as board president in a 3-1-1 roll-call vote and selecting Trustee Patricia Singer as vice president and Trustee Rusty Souders as clerk in subsequent votes.
Nominations opened at about 06:30. Several trustees were nominated; Tarvin accepted a nomination and won the presidency with three ayes, one no (Trustee Westmoreland) and one absence (Trustee Gorsuch). The board then elected Singer as vice president 4-0-1 and Souders as clerk 4-0-1. The board recorded the attendance and votes on the record during the roll‑call process.
Following the officer elections, trustees created and reorganized several subcommittees. The board dissolved some previously standing committees (measure/bond oversight, board policy review and trustee-area election committee) and established new or reconstituted groups to focus on Wintersburg, a property portfolio review, special programs (including arts and special education), fields and grounds, and attendance and achievement. Trustees volunteered or were assigned to the committees during the meeting.
Outgoing officers were recognized for 2025 accomplishments, and Superintendent Dr. Hofer and Board members praised shared governance work completed this year. The board scheduled subcommittee work and asked staff to return with details and next steps.
