Anonymous donor pays adoption fees; animal control urges adoptions in Bedford County

Jess, the animal control officer, told the committee an anonymous donor "came into my facility and paid for every adoption fee for every animal, cat and dog that was on the floor." Jess said the shelter has been hit "really hard" this time of year by people abandoning older dogs after holiday giving, and warned that dumped animals are harder to rehome. "So I would just encourage to please adopt, please spay and neuter," she said, adding a personal appeal for community support.
The committee had no questions following the report and thanked Jess for her update. The animal control report was included in the meeting packet and approved along with other reports later in the session.
The animal control office invited residents interested in adopting to visit the shelter and said most animals currently available have completed basic veterinary care.
