Board hears pool repair timeline and bids; staff expects contractor quotes in two weeks

City staff updated the Parks & Recreation Board on planned repairs for the city pool and a timeline for contractor bids and budget review.
Speaker 1 said 7 Fabrication has been awarded the contract for the pool’s electrical work (junction box, wiring and panel repairs) and that in‑house repairs of a broken countertop/tile border are scheduled to start this month. Hand‑sanitizer dispensers required by inspection have arrived and will be installed.
Two pool contractors, Landmark Aquatics and Donnie from Texas Pool Repair Services, met the city for an inspection on Nov. 21. Speaker 1 said both firms will submit quotes, and Donnie provided recommendations during the inspection. The requested work list includes pump and leak repair, filter‑media replacement, pool resurfacing (plaster option or PVC liner), crack caulking, expansion joint replacement, lane lines, and an ADA pool lift.
"They have informed me that they will take 1 to 2 more weeks to get all those quotes ready and submitted to me," Speaker 1 said. Once quotes are received staff will complete a final budget analysis with the finance department to determine next steps and timing; the speaker said council authorized staff to pursue the work but review and budget decisions will come in January.
The board discussed the long history of the children’s pool drainage problems and a recommendation in the packet to permanently close and fill the nonoperational children’s pool area due to recurring drainage failures. Board members suggested demolition and regrading with shade structures or seating to avoid repeated temporary fixes. No formal decision to close or fill the children’s pool was made at the meeting.
