Palmdale Aerospace Academy board elects officers, appoints finance, audit and development committees

PALMDALE — The Palmdale Aerospace Academy District board elected a new board president and vice president and finalized committee assignments at a brief meeting that included a closed session with no reportable action.

During the meeting facilitator’s call for action items, an unnamed board member nominated themself for board president, saying, “I nominate myself.” A fellow board member seconded the nomination; the board called for a voice vote. Multiple members responded “aye” and one member announced an abstention; the motion carried.

The board then nominated Ellen McIsaac for vice president. The nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote with multiple ayes and one abstention.

Members also reviewed and approved committee rosters. The board development committee was listed as Dennis Trujillo, Vicky Lee and Ellen McIsaac; the audit committee was listed as the meeting facilitator, Nardi Lopez and Ellen McIsaac; and the finance committee was listed as Cheryl Garner and Justin Knowles. During that discussion board members referenced the board bylaws and noted the audit committee’s role is to provide board-level oversight of school audits and to work with staff and auditors on financial reviews.

The board announced it would adjourn into closed session at 6:11 p.m. and reconvened to open session at 6:31 p.m., at which time the facilitator stated there was no reportable action from the closed session. With no significant board reports and no public comments, a motion to adjourn carried and the meeting ended at 6:32 p.m.

The meeting record does not attribute the motions or individual roll-call votes to named members; votes were taken by voice and recorded as ayes and one abstention in each contested item. The board displayed its upcoming calendar for members but did not take additional substantive actions during the session.
